President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced today that the government has decided to dissolve the Road Development Corporation (RDC), and transfer all its ongoing work to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). 

At this afternoon's press conference at the President's Office, President Muizzu stated that there are multiple companies which carry out similar work, and that this contributes to increasing government expenditure. 

Hence, to carry out infrastructural projects in a streamlined manner, the government has decided to dissolve RDC, he announced. 

"In general, RDC is a company that undertakes road development. MTCC also conducts road development work. There is a lot of duplication like this. So, to deliver infrastructural projects under an efficient system, we are bringing this change."

RDC was formed under the previous administration citing citizens' rights to basic services such as road development and maintenance on all inhabited islands.

RDC has a large number of staff on roll and is, even at present, undertaking several road development projects across the country.
