Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) activist Ahmed Maimoon, who was arrested last Monday night, was conditionally released yesterday.
He was arrested under a court order after an MDP rally on 28th August.
He was arrested for allegedly causing disorder at the rally, obstructing police officers in the execution of their duties and crossing police barricades erected to block the road.
He was produced before the Criminal Court and remanded in custody for five days.
His remand has expired since and was released yesterday.
The court order stated that Maimoon was conditionally released for 30 days. The conditions are:
- To cooperate with the investigation.
- To inform the police if he is leaving the Male' region.
- To inform the police if his address or phone number changes.
Maimoon is employed at the Male' City Council, is an MDP activist and is also the Vice-President of the MDP Youth Wing.
