Speaker of the Parliament and ruling People's National Congress (PNC) Chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla responded last night that former President Abdulla Yameen was unsuccessful in securing a second term and saw his government end due to his ego.
While gesturing to Yameen stating that MPs do not have any freedom and responding to Yameen's most recent speech from his repeated statements during last night's PNC hub meeting, Abdul Raheem expressed concern that a former President would say that the "Parliament is a dog cage".
Abdul Raheem highlighted that in addition to serving as the President, Yameen served as an MP for 21 years.
"When a person has been able to take the name of president, someone who is elected by the people, to heights they would not dare to and then lose their stature after having served, it is clear how much jealousy has accumulated in their heart. What else could it be other than jealousy," said Abdul Raheem.
Abdul Raheem said that he has no desire to respond even though Yameen spoke in such a way. However, he said that in that same breath, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's government has not come to an end, but Yameen's has.
"But Falah's, mine and President Muizzu's government has not ended. Yameen's government has. It ended because of pride. It ended because of arrogance. It ended because of immorality. It ended because he did not behave. It ended because justice was not established. It ended because of cruelty. It ended because of fraudulence. It ended because the wealth of the nation was misappropriated and gulped down," said Abdul Raheem while firing back against Yameen.
Abdul Raheem responded to Yameen's statement that some MPs were "not displaying strength" when standing with President Muizzu. He stated that PNC MPs standing with President Muizzu are not the same as some of those who stood with Yameen, and that the MPs "stand strong with President Muizzu".
"I would say that there is no magic or black magic President Yameen knows that can form cracks within PNC. We are sincerely standing strong together," Abdul Raheem said.
He alleged that Yameen is not happy with PNC's top brass because they had campaigned for people other than Yameen for presidency.
