Chief Government Spokesperson at the President's Office Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) has stated that more than 200 political staff have been dismissed in three months by right-sizing state-owned enterprises (SOE) as part of the government's efforts in reducing expenditure.

In an interview with PSM, Shareef said that as part of the government's policy in reducing expenses, a total of 205 political staff across four job levels.

According to Shareef, people in positions such as State Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Senior Political Directors and Political Directors were dismissed.

He said they are not done and that there will be further political staff dismissals in the future.

"205 staff have been dismissed as of yet, with the positions being State Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Senior Political Directors and Political Directors. There is more to be done. This figure may change in the future," said Shareef.

He also said that once the government is done right-sizing SOEs, there will be a significant decrease in people who were employed compared to the number of people who were employed by the current government.
