A special march has been held at Male' and other islands this morning in celebration of Police Service Day.

Male' police took part in the march which started at 6:00 am and proceeded until Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

The march began at Republic Square, with Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan, Police Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed and Deputy Police Commissioner Faruhad Fikuree taking part.

Police stated that a large number of officers of various ranks and civil servants totaling more than 1,000 staff took part in the march.

The marches that took place at the islands saw police officers and civil servants who work at the islands take part.

The very first Police Service Day march took place on 1st September 2004 and has continued to this day, with today's march marking 22 years of the police administration being a separate institution.

Activities on Police Service Day include a children's evening around the Social Center and a "Police Family Night" at the Social Center, said police.
