India's Kerala State has donated 600 teak plants and 600 mango plants to Maldives. 

A report in Times of India states that the 1,200 saplings were donated by Kerala to assist in the Maldives' Five Million Tree programme. 

Kerala's Minister for Forests, Wildlife Protection and Skills Development Shibu Baby John presented the saplings to the Maldives' consulate in Trivandrum, the article reports. 

The saplings were received by Maldives' Consul General Aminath Shifana. 

The mango trees were sourced from Vellayani College of Agriculture while the teak plants were sourced from Kulathupuzha Central Nursery, Times of India reports.

The trees have now been packed for transport to the Maldives, they said. 

The donation was made under Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to support the Five Million Tree Planting initiative.
