Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel has stated that the company has decided to implement additional safety measures at their flat towers in Hulhumale' Phase 2, adding that deliberations are now ongoing on how to move forward with the plans. 

Hamdhan said that the discussions are on how to identify units in the towers which house children and persons with special needs, and on the most appropriate safety mechanisms that can be implemented to ensure the safety of residents. 

Hamdhan noted that this is an initiative taken under instruction from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and assured that safety measures will be taken at all units. High priority units will first be identified, with the rest to be covered afterwards, he said. 

Male' City Council also stated yesterday that they will be directing Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to affix railings on the windows of Hulhumale' Phase 2 residential towers. 

These measures are being taken following the recent death of a 2 year old, who fell from the 12th storey of STELCO flats last Tuesday.

A day prior to this, a 16 year old fell from the 3rd storey of an FDC Flat tower. The child's condition is now reportedly stable, according to the hospital. 

As the population grows in Hulhumale' Phase 2, which has several highrise residential towers unlike Phase 1, tragic incidents such as this have been on the rise.
