A Sri Lankan who was working at a shop in Male' has been arrested for attempting to flee the country after stealing MVR 25,000 from their place of employment.

The person arrested in this case is a 41-year-old man by the name of Chandreskaran Anthony.

He was issued a 15-day remand on Tuesday, with the court order for his remand stating that snapshots of video footage of the accused in the store, incident report and the flight ticket he had purchased were presented to the court as evidence.

The Criminal Court's order reads that MVR 25,000 in sales on the day and a mobile phone were stolen from the store. It also reads that the shop's other staff confirms that the person on the CCTV footage is the person being accused of theft.

The accused has stated that he had resigned 10 days before the incident and that he was somewhere else at the time of the incident.
