The GDh. Thinadhoo council has appealed to the Environment Ministry to fine housing developers Swift Engineering for unauthorized disposal of cement mix and chemical water in the island's mangrove. 

Swift Engineering belongs to ruling People's National Congress' North Thinadhoo MP Saudhulla Hilmy. The company has been awarded a housing contract in Thinadhoo to build 50 housing units. 

A letter sent to the Environment Ministry, signed by Thinadhoo Mayor Saudhu Ali, states that youth from the island had brought to the council's attention that Swift Engineering company is dewatering from their work sites to the 6,923 sqft mangrove. 

The letter condemns this action and states such acts should not be committed by responsible parties. 

The mayor's letter states that the council has confirmed that Swift Engineering has disposed of chemical water and cement mix in the mangroves located on the southern side of the island. The letter calls on the ministry to take necessary action against the company and to fine them.
