Police last night released information regarding the fatal accident that occurred near Vinares flats in Hulhumale' Phase 2. 

Citing CCTV footage, police said that the accident had occurred when a motorcycle attempted to overtake an idling car while the driver was getting into the vehicle. The motorcycle crashed into the driver and fell on to the right side lane of the road. The 9 year old child, who had been the passenger on the motorcycle, had fallen on to the road. An oncoming car, unable to brake suddenly, had then either hit or run over the child, Police said. 

The accident occurred at around 9pm on Saturday night. It claimed the life of 9 year old Zeevaa Ahmed Sinan, who passed away on September 1 while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). 

Police stated that they are conducting forensic tests as part of the investigation to confirm the circumstances that led to the accident. They said that three vehicles involved in the accident have been towed, and the driving licenses of these vehicles have been seized. 

Police further revealed that the driver of the idling car had been driving the car while his license had been previously seized. As a result, Police took action against him, including levying a fine. 

At the time of the accident, the motorcycle had been driven by Zeevaa's 18 year old aunt. She, too, sustained varying levels of injuries in the accident.
