President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu today called on relevant authorities to give special priority to raising public awareness regarding safety on roads and in buildings.

In a post on X following the passing of a nine-year-old child early this morning due to an accident in Hulhumalé and the death of a two-year-old child who fell from a building in Hulhumalé today, the President stated that these news reports have brought feelings of distress and sorrow to the entire nation.

"I offer my condolences to the families of these two innocent children. And I pray that the deceased be granted the highest blessings and prosperity of paradise," the President said.

The President stated that raising public awareness regarding such sudden dangerous accidents occurring on roads and in high-rise buildings is a national and humanitarian effort that must be undertaken collectively by the whole community. Additionally, the President said it is particularly important to ensure safety features such as windows, balconies, and railings in high-rise buildings.

The President also stated that in caring for individuals with Psychological conditions or disabilities as well as young children, building managers and families must take responsible measures together in the homes where such persons and children live.

The President urged the government, companies, civil organizations, and the public to give special priority to ensuring road and building safety, and to conduct well-organized awareness programs.

"May Almighty Allah grant safety and peace to Maldivian society and families. Amen," the President said.

The nine-year-old child injured in an accident near the Vinares flats in Hulhumalé last Saturday night passed away early this morning while receiving treatment. Furthermore, a two-year-old child passed away this morning after falling from the 12th floor of a STELCO flat in Hulhumalé Phase 2.
