Police have said today that the investigation into the child sexual abuse of a 3 year old is now looking into whether the mother had been involved in the abuse. 

Previously, the child's father has been arrested for sexually abusing his daughter and recording video footage of the abuse. The man, arrested by the South Central Police on Friday, is reportedly a 28 year old Maldivian man. 

The court has placed the man in remand in custody for 30 days. 

There have been allegations that the child's mother was also involved in the abuse. When asked about this, Police said that the investigation is looking into whether the mother was involved, and the extent of any involvement. 

Police said that Family and Welfare Ministry and other relevant institutions are closely monitoring the case and taking all necessary actions to ensure the safety of the child. 

As the case is under active investigation, no further details were disclosed.
