Police have suspended the license of an individual who drove dangerously on the Sinamale' Bridge last night, along with towing their motorcycle.

Police took action against the youth due to a video of him driving dangerously that was circulating on social media.

The video showed the young man driving on the Sinamale' Bridge highway with one hand on the handlebar and both his feet on one side of the motorcycle instead of being seated with both feet on either side.

When the media approached the police with questions, they said last night that they identified the vehicle and the driver, suspended their license and penalized him. The motorcycle in the video has been towed for 30 days as well, said police.

A video that was uploaded to social media last month showed three individuals driving dangerously on the Sinamale' Bridge highway who subsequently had their motorcycles towed for 30 days as well.

Accident rates have risen in Maldives as of late, with deaths and serious injury rates having increased as well.

Looking at statistics publicized by the police last month, the first six months of 2026 shows 1,355 accidents reported on the Sinamale' Bridge highway alone.
