Managing Director of STELCO Ali Azwar has said that while STELCO has opportunities for youth who want to progress in the engineering industry, their proudest achievement is having a 100 percent Maldivian engineering team.

In relation to National Engineers' Day, he extended his wishes to all Maldivian engineers who are working in Maldives and in other countries who are building the nation, and extended his wishes specifically to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu as well.

Azwar said that even though the number of engineering students in Maldives is relatively small, the industry itself has a lot of opportunities. He said the company facilitates training opportunities for young engineers and is a priority to the company.

"The engineering industry is an important industry in building a nation. STELCO is always ready to welcome youth in establishing a generation that is capable and aware regarding the latest technology," said the Managing Director.

According to Azwar, the engineering industry is the backbone in national development and it is Maldivians who are handling the responsibility of being STELCO's engineers.

The reality of the services being provided to the public for 24 hours nonstop comes from the hard work of that skilled team, said Azwar.

"We want to recognize those who have studied for the industry in the past and served the company and the senior engineers who have retired since then, and to renew our memory of the employees who have left the company," Azwar stated.

While highlighting STELCO's efforts in increasing the technical capabilities of their staff, Azwar said that they have sent engineers to European countries to take part in world-class training.

Most of STELCO's engineers are trained by the company. Azwar said that in 2024, the company gave 535 training opportunities to staff, with 947 training opportunities being given in 2025.
