President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that a "state-of-the-art building" will be constructed to increase the number of engineering students in various fields, support training, and provide a dedicated space for industry-related research.

In a video message that was shared in celebration of Engineers' Day, President Muizzu said that he wishes to increase the number of students who are pursuing higher education in regards to various engineering fields. He said that the government needs to provide all sorts of aid to achieve that.

"Hopefully in the coming days, we are looking to construct a building with a state-of-the-art, high-end laboratory where analysis and research can be conducted into various engineering fields," said the President.

According to the President, the building will be constructed to include facilities where students who want to pursue engineering and students who travel back to Maldives can conduct analyses and experiments.

President Muizzu went on to say that fields such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aircraft and Aeronautical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, AI and Digital Engineering will be taught in the building.

"The government will proceed with the necessary technical and investment efforts. It will be done so that the state budget will not be strained and in a sustainable manner," the President stated.

He also stated that this will increase the number of students who want to study various engineering fields and will bring the industry in Maldives to greater heights.

President Muizzu graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Civil Engineering. The President decided to dedicate a day for engineering last year, with today being the first day it is being celebrated.
