A 9 year old girl has suffered serious injuries in an accident that occurred tonight near Vinares 7 in Hulhumale' Phase 2. 

The accident occurred when a motorcycle and car collided. The child was a passenger on the motorcycle. 

On collision, the child was thrown on to the road, causing major head injuries. She was observed to be bleeding heavily and appeared unconscious. 

Police confirmed that the victim is a 9 year old Maldivian girl. Her condition is reportedly critical. 

The child was first taken to Hulhumale' Hospital. The hospital said that the child is on ventilator support and has been since referred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital. 

Police are investigating the accident.
