The Maldivian Red Crescent has opened a fund to assist people affected by the dangerous flooding incident caused by a landslide in the border region of Nepal and China last week.

According to a social media post made by the organization yesterday, money must be sent via the crowdfunding platform "Give.Asia." It also stated that dollars can be sent to the Red Crescent via Bank of Maldives (BML) and Islamic Bank as well.

It said that funds can be deposited to this account until coming Thursday.

The Red Crescent stated that money will be sent to the Nepal Red Cross Society through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

The organization's target is to raise USD 10,000. So far, five dollars have been received.

According to observations made so far, this dangerous flooding incident occurred when a glacier detached and fell from a high area of the Himalayan mountains.

Over 300 people have died in the incident, while more than 1,300 people are missing.

Along with the detached glacier, millions of tons of ice, mud, and rocks flowed down into the valleys and rivers below. Additionally, ongoing seasonal rains accelerated the spread of the water, causing it to swell. The water rushed through the valleys with extraordinary force and height.

Buildings along the path of the floodwaters have been buried under mud and debris.
