Maldives Immigration has placed temporary arrangements to offset the delay of Maldives' passport booklets being prepared and sent by a German company so that Maldivian citizens will not experience any difficulties in passport services.
An announcement from Immigration reads that German company Dermalog had informed them that they would not be able to send passport booklets for the scheduled date.
The company said they will be able to send the booklets by the end of September.
While referring to the company, Immigration said that the passport booklet delivery was delayed due to an issue with the company's print house.
Temporary arrangements from Immigration
- Extending the expiration date for a Maldivian who is in the country that has an expired passport and needs to get it renewed. The date will be extended to 30th June 2027.
- Providing an emergency/temporary document to those who need to make a passport for the first time for those who want to travel to countries frequented by Maldivians such as India and Sri Lanka.
According to Immigration, the two services within the temporary arrangements will not be chargeable until passports are issued same as before.
The emergency passport is a one-year one-page document that abides by the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Immigration went on to say that even though there is a delay in sending passport booklets, the German company has been providing passport booklets to Maldives for the last 10 years. Immigration highlighted no other issues that have transpired in that time frame.
Even though temporary passport arrangements had to be made, Immigration gave their full assurance that no Maldivian will experience any issues in traveling outside of the country.
