In celebration of marking the first Engineers' Day Maldives, a children's evening will be held at Central Park, Hulhumale' on Saturday.
A statement from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development reads that many activities have been planned in celebration of Engineers' Day on Sunday, with the first activity being a children's day on Saturday at Central Park, Hulhumale' from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
The ministry said that the activity is meant to raise awareness among children regarding urban and economic development, the important role played by the engineering industry and engineers, and to increase interest among the younger generation in the industry.
The ministry stated that important state institutions related to engineering and various other state-owned enterprise (SOE) stalls will be put up at the event.
The ministry went on to say that those who attend will have the chance to experience various fun and knowledge-based activities, with information regarding the work being done by engineers from the institutions being available from the stalls.
Taking students to engineering sites
The ministry said that along with the children's evening, they have planned site visits across various parts of Maldives for 5th September as a means to increase interest in engineering among students.
The site visits will be conducted at at least two islands per atoll on the island's project site itself or at the power stations.
As per the ministry, engineers will also be going to the islands, with students being taught about the engineers' roles within the project or at the power station.
According to the ministry, a site visit to the ongoing Thilamale' Bridge project has also been planned specifically for school students of various age groups. They also stated that the students will be taught about the engineers' on-site efforts and engineers roles for such a project.
The ministry also stated that the most notable activity in relation to Engineers' Day is the Engineers' Award ceremony.
The Engineers' Award is meant to recognize the efforts of Maldivian engineers and the hard work of those who are involved in the development of Maldives and the engineering industry. The ceremony will be held on 10th September, with the award being given in 10 categories.
