President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Shuaib Yoosuf as a member of the Employment Tribunal.

Shuaib took the oath of office at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Thursday morning. Supreme Court Justice Uz Ali Rasheed Hussain administered the oath, after which the President presented Shuaib with his appointment letter.

Shuaib was appointed following the expiry of the term of his predecessor, Mariyam Rishfa.

He previously served as Director General of the Elections Commission before retiring from the commission in 2016.

The appointment comes amid recent changes to the tribunal’s leadership. Ishaq Hussain resigned as president of the tribunal, while vice-president Fathimath Mahira was removed from her position.

Amjad Musthafa has since been appointed president of the tribunal, while Ahmed Mamdhooh has been appointed vice-president.

The Employment Tribunal has nine members, including its president.
