Parliament has approved the appointment of Jameela Ali Khalid as the Maldives’ high commissioner to the UK.

Jameela’s appointment was approved unanimously by the 56 MPs present at today’s sitting.

Jameela, who has held several government positions, currently serves as an ambassador-at-large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

She served as the Maldives’ first resident ambassador to Germany from 2017 to 2019 and was also a vice-president of the Civil Service Commission.

The position of high commissioner to the UK became vacant after Iruthisham Adam was appointed foreign minister in April.
