An additional 17 cases of measles were detected last week as well, and over 15,000 people have been vaccinated so far to protect against this disease, HPA said today.
According to the information released weekly on social media regarding the measles outbreak, 17 more people contracted the disease, bringing the total number of people infected with measles this year to 243.
In the week prior to that as well, 10 people contracted measles.
WHO declared measles eradicated from the Maldives in 2017. Since then, the disease has been detected occasionally among foreigners living in the Maldives. However, the situation worsened this time as the disease began spreading among Maldivians.
It has now been more than two months since the disease has been present. To protect against it, a vaccination program was launched last month, and 16,045 people have been vaccinated so far.
To Protect Against Measles:
- If you have a fever and red spots on your body, seek medical help at a hospital without delay. Wear a mask when going to the hospital and avoid using public transportation.
- If tested under suspicion of measles, remain in isolation until the results are received.
- If you have any symptoms of the disease, avoid going to crowded places.
