The remaining MVR 1 million in fines of former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb has been paid to the state. 

In connection to fraud in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) case, Adeeb was sentenced to 20 years in paid and a fine of MVR 2 million. MVR 1 million had been paid in the past.

However, as the remainder of the fine had not been paid, the Civil Court issued an order on 11th September 2025 for it to be paid.

As the Attorney General’s Office pursued the outstanding fine from Adeeb, he was required to make an initial payment of MVR100,000, followed by monthly payments of MVR20,000 until the fine was paid in full.

The Civil Court issued a sentence yesterday which states that MVR 1 million was paid in two installments. 

MVR 100,000 was paid on 11th September 2025 and the remaining MVR 900,000 was paid on 13th August 2026. The sentence has been deemed served and the case has been closed.

Under the agreement made with the prosecution, Adeeb was set to serve 20 years in prison. During former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government however, the former president reduced Adeeb's sentence at the end of his term to a four-day prison sentence. With this, Adeeb has been freed.
