Sixty two percent of the work on the Rasmalé land reclamation project has been completed.
In a post on X, Deputy Minister of Housing Mohamed Nashid stated that the reclamation of Rasmalé the largest land reclamation project conducted in the history of the Maldives is proceeding without interruption.
He also stated that under the project, which is set to reclaim a total of 1,150 hectares of land, 716 hectares have now been reclaimed, making Rasmalé the island with the largest land area in the Maldives.
"This is 107 hectares larger than L. Gan (609 hectares), which was previously the largest island," Nashid said.
Under this government's housing scheme, a total of 25,000 land plots have been decided to be issued from Rasmalé. However, 15,000 land plots will be given in the first round.
Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib previously stated that by the time the ministry finishes evaluating the forms of applicants who applied for land, the reclamation of Rasmalé will be complete.
According to the ministry last Saturday, the list of recipients who will receive flats and land plots among those who applied for this government's housing scheme will be published before the end of December.
When the deadline to apply for land plots and flats from the Malé area under the "Housing for All" policy expired on June 15th, 58,505 forms had been submitted to the established "Bohiyaavahikan Portal." That consists of 35,930 forms applying for flats in addition to 22,575 forms applying for land plots.
