Vessel that fled collision found in Hulhumalé lagoon after over a month

Police have said that the boat which fled without stopping after a major collision at sea near Malé on the night of July 9th has been found.

Police had been working to locate the vessel after it fled without stopping following a collision between a speedboat named "Legion 1" and the another vessel off the jetty area. Police also sought public assistance to gather information regarding the boat.

However, after more than a month, police said the speedboat was found anchored in the Hulhumalé lagoon last Saturday evening at around 5:42 p.m.

According to police, the speedboat has been searched and information required for the investigation has been collected.

Police said that after verifying necessary details, the captain of the speedboat was also questioned and his maritime vessel driving license has been withheld.

Police also said that the matter is under further investigation.

In the speedboat collision incident, four foreign men and a Maldivian man sustained injuries and were treated at IGMH.

Photos circulated on social media at the time showed that the vessel had struck one side of the speedboat, causing extensive damage.
