"The yacht marina will have around 18 berths. It is a very small scale. After this is done, the project will see further expansion. We hope to make it a world-class marina," said MPL's CEO.

Uligan Council President Asadulla said that developing a yacht marina at the island is a dream of the island residents. He said that the island's economy will see major growth.

Minister of Economic Development, Transport & Trade Mohamed Saeed posted on X, stating that the yacht marina will allow Uligan and the north to become a special area for yachts.

MPL and Uligan Council signed an agreement to develop a yacht marina at Uligan on 1st August 2024.

The plot was handed over to MPL yesterday on a lease basis, with the lease commencing three years after the yacht marina begins operations.

Maldives' northern-most island Uligan is an important part of international marine travel, with many yachts docking at the Uligan lagoon.

Around 100 to 150 yachts dock at Uligan yearly, with concerns that the yachts are not being provided adequate services.
