The Prosecutor General's Office stated today that charges brought against a man accused of selling child pornography were withdrawn because no evidence of this was obtained against him, and considering the period he spent in detention, there would be no further penalty to execute even if found guilty.
Adam Adnan Latheef of Moonimaage, Th. Vilufushi, was arrested last April on suspicion of selling child pornography photos and videos using a Binance exchange wallet address.
After filing two charges of possessing pornography against the 22-year-old Adnan, the Prosecutor General's (PG) Office withdrew the case.
In a statement released today regarding the matter, the PG Office said the cases were withdrawn because no evidence was obtained indicating that he sold material showing child pornography or that he had a connection to such a network.
Additionally, the statement said there was no evidence that could prove the materials found were child pornography. The statement also noted that although the charges for possessing pornography could proceed, the basic penalty for that offense is imprisonment for one month and six days, while he had already spent 28 days in detention.
Therefore, the statement said that since there would be no further penalty for him to execute even in the event of being found guilty, there was no interest in continuing the prosecution, which led to the withdrawal of the charges.
