Male' City Council is seeking contractors to repair and operate pay toilets at their own expense, with the possibility of operating cafe's or other businesses on the upper floors of the buildings.
The council has announced long-term leases for pay toilet buildings at four locations in Male'. Tenders for the operation of the facilities opened today.
Further information will be provided at a council meeting at the council's meeting hall on Boduthakurufaanu Magu on Thursday.
Properties offered for lease are:
- Pay Toilet 06 land, near Atoll Shop
- Pay Toilet 07 land
- Pay toilet land near the Maldives Monetary Authority
- Pay toilet land in Henveiru
The council said the buildings will be leased together with the land.
"There is a pay toilet below. The tenant can run a cafe' on top of the building if they want. The council will decide on the bid. This does not mean that it will be allowed to be developed up to 10 or 12 floors," a council media official said.
The council said bids submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
Only Maldivian companies, partnerships, local investors and holders of business permits will be eligible to participate in the tender.
The council has also decided to lease Plot 13 on Ameenee Magu on a long term basis, as well as the shop at Sinamale' 3.
