Rain showers but calm seas over weekend: MET

An official from the MET Office said that rainfall will be seen in the northern and central parts of Maldives over the next 24 hours, with some parts of central Maldives experiencing torrential rainfall. The official also said that southern islands will experience rain showers.

A forecast from the Maldives Meteorological (MET) Office states that even though various parts of Maldives will experience rain showers over the coming weekend, Maldives' ocean waters will be calm.

An official from the MET Office said that rainfall will be seen in the northern and central parts of Maldives over the next 24 hours, with some parts of central Maldives experiencing torrential rainfall. The official also said that southern islands will experience rain showers.

According to the official, over the next two days, rain showers will be observed across Maldives, but the weather will be generally pleasant. The official said that wind speeds will generally be low, between 6 miles per hour and 16 miles per hour.

"Even if there is rain and rain showers, all of Maldives' waters will be calm. However, gust speeds will be high, with the ocean expected to be rough," said the official.

Weather forecasts show that Male' will experience the highest amount of rainfall will be observed late at night tonight and early tomorrow morning.

As per Maldives' Nakaiy calendar, today is the 10th Nakaiy of the Southwest (Hulhangu) Monsoon, known as the 10th day of Maa. This Nakaiy usually sees low wind speeds and calm seas.

Of Maldives' two seasons, the Northeast (Iruvai) Monsoon starts in January until the end of March. The Southwest Monsoon starts in May until the end of November. April and December are known to be transitional months.
