The deadline for applications for the Engineers Award has been extended until next week, the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has announced.
The ministry opened applications for the awards on August 6, with the original deadline set for today. The new deadline is 2pm on Thursday next week.
Government agencies, state-owned companies, engineering companies, firms, contractors, consultants, project teams and academic or research teams are eligible to apply, provided they meet the requirements set out in the regulations.
Applications can be submitted through the ministry's online awards portal.
The awards will be presented in 10 categories:
- Engineer of the Year
- Lifetime Achievement Award
- Young Engineer Award
- Engineering Innovation, Technology, Education and Research Award
- Sustainability Champion Award
- Engineering Consultancy Firm of the Year Award
- Student Innovator Award
- Community Impact Award
- Contractor of the Year Award
- Women in Engineering Award
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced last year that the Maldives would celebrate Engineers' Day for the first time on June 15. He later decided that Engineers' Day would be observed annually on August 30 to recognize the contributions of Maldivian engineers to the country.
