Civil Court Judge Abdulla Ihusan was suspended because an investigation is ongoing into a sexual harassment allegation made against him, Judicial Service Commission (JSC) stated tonight.

In a press release issued this afternoon, JSC stated that based on the nature of the case being investigated regarding Ihusan and the information received so far, and grounded on the principle of maintaining trust in the judiciary, he has been suspended until the Commission determines a specific outcome.

Ihusan was suspended for a period of 60 days starting today.

However, as media outlets reported his suspension in connection with a case filed in the Civil Court, the JSC clarified that Ihusan was temporarily relieved of his duties regarding a case submitted to the commission involving sexual harassment allegations directed at the judge.

According to the JSC, all matters required to be verified through the Commission's investigative procedure have been verified, Ihusan's statement has been recorded, and statements from additional individuals required for the investigation have also been obtained.

JSC stated that based on information obtained during the investigation of the case, he was suspended because it was deemed that him remaining on the job could obstruct the investigation, and to uphold the principle of maintaining trust in the judiciary.
