The government has decided to reduce the price of national airline Maldivian tickets sold to tourists.

The President's Office stated that the Cabinet came to this decision during a meeting held on Sunday.

Due to the price of oil spiking on the world market that is being caused by ongoing war being waged by the United States of America (USA) and Israel on Iran, Maldivian decided to increase the price of tickets sold to tourists in April 2026.

As per sources, Maldivian increased the ticket prices for tourists traveling to Male'-Addu and Male'-Fuvahmulah to USD 33 (MVR 510.18) at the time.

A senior official from Island Aviation, the parent company of Maldivian, told Mihaaru News previously that ticket prices were increased for tourists due to the rise in the price of jet fuel being sold at Velana International Airport (VIA).

The price of jet fuel in Maldives has seen an increase from USD 1.19 to USD 1.99.

"This is a 67 percent price increase in such a short time," said the official.

The tremors of the war started by the U.S. against Iran are being felt most significantly in the global oil market. In response to the aggression initiated by the U.S. and Israel against Iran, Iran has almost completely closed the Strait of Hormuz, through which five percent of the world's oil supply flows.

Prior to the war however, Maldivian sold flight tickets to tourists at a higher price compared to locals.
