MTCC, the operator of the Male' Taxi Line, stated today that reports circulating alleging that the application used for the service was hacked by external parties are false news contrary to reality, and that the information was leaked by an employee of the company.
In a statement released by MTCC, the company stated that an internal investigation confirmed that an employee working at the company modified information contained in the taxi app's back-end database system, took screenshots of that information, and leaked it.
MTCC also stated that the employee committed this act without authorization, with the intent of achieving personal and political motives.
MTCC said that as soon as the company's ICT network security team identified that modifications had been made to the back-end database system, the system was immediately shut down and placed under a security lock-down.
"And at 11:30 that night, the server and back-end system were safely restored, and security was assured," the statement said.
According to MTCC, this was not an incident that occurred due to an external attack on the application's firewall. It also stated that customers can currently access the service without any difficulties.
"The employee who committed this untoward act has now been suspended from employment duties. We assure all shareholders and customers that the strictest measures required under the company's rules and procedures will be taken against this employee," MTCC said.
The statement also added that such acts are carried out to tarnish the public trust and good reputation that MTCC has built over many years of hard work.
