High Court judge Ibrahim Mahir, who was appointed to the bench last September, has decided to retire.

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has accepted Mahir's resignation, according to sources. He will officially retire on 6 September.

JSC could not be reached for comment.

The reason for Mahir's decision to retire less than a year after being appointed to the High Court is unclear.

Mahir has worked in the judiciary for many years. He began his judicial career at the Civil Court before moving to the Family Court in 2010, five years later.

He remained at the Family Court until his appointment to the High Court, having served as chief judge of the Family Court since 2022.
