President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he will submit to the Parliament to ensure, systematically and institutionally, a robust and firm system that guarantees laws, policies, and regulations made in the Maldives remain within Islamic boundaries and standards.

Speaking at the ceremony held this morning in HA. Utheemu on the occasion of National Day, the President stated that one lesson provided by the events of National Day is the extent to which the nation's independence and Islam are intertwined.

"Every time policies unfamiliar to Islam or distant from Islam were implemented, the independence of the Maldivian nation was lost or the independence of the Maldives was exposed to the brink of danger," the President stated.

"Therefore, for that reason, I believe that a system capable of protecting Islam must be fully established in the country."

President Muizzu stated that according to the Constitution of the Maldives, no law contrary to Islam can be made in the Maldives, and therefore, that laws, policies, and regulations made in the Maldives must remain within the boundaries and standards of the noble religion of Islam is something visible in writing.

"However, the question that arises is, is there a robust system to ensure this? Does such a firm systemic framework exist within our procedures? The easiest, simplest, and shortest answer is that such a system does not exist yet," the President stated.

The President stated that he therefore intends to bring an end to this state of affairs and systematically and institutionally ensure a robust, firm system that prevents any law contradicting or opposing the noble religion of Islam from being created in the Maldives.

"Therefore, I give full assurance to all beloved citizens of the Maldives today that, God willing, a proposal will be submitted to the third session of the Parliament this year to establish such a system," the President stated.

National Day is celebrated to commemorate the noble jihad carried out by Utheemu Mohamed Thakurufaanu (Bodu Thakurufaanu) to free the Maldives from Portuguese rule. Noting that the Maldives had to remain under Portuguese rule for many years in distress due to a single person abandoning the noble religion of Islam, the President stated that from that point on, the spiritual connection between that person and the Maldivian soil was severed, and the foundation of patriotic love and affection was shattered.

"From the moment religion is abandoned, that betrayal was committed not only against religion. That betrayal was committed against the Maldivian nation, against the Maldives and the Maldivian state, against the independence, sovereignty, and integrity of Maldivians, against the honor and dignity of Maldivians, and indeed against the entire Maldivian history. How dangerous was the result? How tragic?" the President stated.

Therefore, the President stated that the Utheemu King fought for the sake of religion, and that raising the flag of war at the Kandhuvalu Mosque on Utheemu soil by the three Utheemu brothers was for the sake of the noble religion of Islam.

"(His motive was) to fight until victory was achieved for the safety of the noble religion of Islam and the Maldives, or else to be martyred and reach the mercy of Allah as a complete Muslim. Therefore, from this as well, the connection between the events of National Day and the noble religion of Islam is seen very completely," the President stated.
