Housing minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Monday had unveiled the current construction images of the landmark bridge that is being developed between capital Male and the airport island Hulhule.

The minister posted the images in a tweet, but while he did not mention any details, the images depicted showthat work was progressing at a fast pace.

The new photos made public are very similar to the projected images that the bridge’s contractor, CCCC Second Harbour Engineering of China, had unveiled at the launching of the landmark bridge project.

With the current images, the public would be assured that the project was progressing fast and would also clear any doubts that individuals had about the bridge becoming a reality.

On many occasions, Muizzu had stated that the construction of the bridge was progressing fast and ahead of schedule but many questions were raised about his statements. However, the new images compared to the projected images from CCCC is a testament to his claims.

The current stage of construction is at the laying of the bridge deck; the deck towards the capital is now almost complete.

The total expense of the project amounts to USD 200 million, out of which USD 116 million is provided as free aid by the Chinese government. China has also loaned USD 72 million while the Maldives’ government is bearing USD 12 million of the project.
