President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, today discussed strengthening efforts toward the security and safety of the Gulf region.

In a post on social media tonight, the UAE Embassy in the Maldives stated that President Muizzu called the country's president today, and both leaders discussed further strengthening the relations between the two nations. The embassy's post also noted that priority was given to the fields of economy and development during the discussions.

"Both leaders reiterated their commitment to enhancing cooperation and increasing the partnership between the Maldives and the UAE in development matters," the UAE Embassy stated.

Both leaders also discussed exploring further opportunities available for the prosperity of the citizens of both nations.

The UAE is one of the Gulf nations with which the Maldives maintains the strongest trade relations. While many items required for the Maldivian tourism industry are imported from the country, it also plays an important role in bringing tourists to the Maldives.
