Male' City Council has decided to work together with the related administrations in order to stop smokers from smoking in public areas which may cause a disturbance for those in the area.

This issue was raised to the council during yesterday's meeting by North Hulhumale' Constituency Council Member Fathimath Zahiyya (Zaya).

Her proposal outlined that those who smoke in public spaces that would cause a disturbance for those in the area to have legal measures taken against them after having the police informed.

While filing the issue, Zahiyya said that there are complaints of disturbance caused by people smoking in areas where people gather in Male', specifically in parks where families take their children to.

According to Zahiyya, many people are concerned regarding the matter and it is something that can have a negative impact on children's health.

And so, the council passed the motion to work together with the related administrations in taking steps against people who smoke in common areas during yesterday's council meeting, with the 16 councilors who were present voting unanimously in favor of it.
