Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has reversed its decision to appoint Mohamed Raqib as a judge of the Civil Court.

Raqib was removed as a Kaafu atoll judicial magistrate following serious allegations.

He was among 42 candidates who applied for the Civil Court judgeship in June and was scheduled to be sworn in today.

However, the JSC reversed the appointment at a meeting held last night.

"There were complaints about Raqib, so the members unanimously decided to change the decision and make a new decision," a source said.

All JSC members attended the meeting except Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Attorney General Ahmed Usham.

Although the decision to appoint Raqib was overturned, the commission did not approve a replacement. The other two candidates selected for the Civil Court are scheduled to be sworn in today.

Raqib was previously appointed as a Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Environment. He was later removed from the post after filing a lawsuit against the state over the alleged fraudulent granting of city status to Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo.

He was removed as a magistrate after facing allegations including sexual harassment, altering sentences, discrimination against staff, maintaining close relationships with some complainants, engaging in political activities and abusing his official powers.
