The mound of garbage near Hulhumale' Phase Two Fahi Flats has been removed.
An official from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) said that all of the garbage that had been piling near the Fahi Flats has been removed and the area has been cleaned.
HDC stated previously that they removed 1,520 tonnes of garbage from Saturday until today, equivalent to garbage loaded to 134 dump trucks.
The pile of garbage that had accumulated at the plot in front of Aman Dhoadhi Tower 10 and Tower 11 mainly had cardboard waste and old furniture from houses.
HDC began waste removal efforts in the area on Saturday.
HDC has requested cooperation from everyone in order to keep the area clean.
HDC cleaned the area as part of their "Madhirin Rahkaa" (Protection from Mosquitoes) campaign in order to rid all parts of Hulhumale' of mosquitos. Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC), the police and WAMCO took part in the campaign as well.
People began moving into the Fahi Flats in September 2025. The issue of waste piling up in the area saw an increase afterward.
FDC has stated previously that MVR 13.5 million has been spent over the last 8 months in clearing the waste near the Fahi Flats. In that time frame, FDC said waste totaling 5,040 tonnes had been removed from the area.
FDC said that such a high expense incurred in ridding waste was due to garbage being dumped in common areas, and due to waste being thrown against regulations, expenses from the state budget and from the corporation are much higher when cleaning and maintaining the areas.
