Maldives Police Service on Wednesday searched the apartment of jailed Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon, under the pretence of searching for a man involved in a drug-related incident.
An individual close to MP Faris told Mihaaru that a group of police officers had entered his apartment in ‘Snow Rose’, Maafannu ward, in the capital Male and waited there until his lawyer came.
When MP Faris’ lawyer questioned the police, they showed a warrant from the drug court, and told him that they were there searching for an individual who was convicted for three-years on a drug-related charge.
The source that spoke to Mihaaru said that the MP Faris’ address was written with a pen on the warrant, while it also stated, in print, that the address of the individual they were looking for was ‘Sena-rose’, also in Maafannu ward in the capital.
No further details regarding the incident were revealed.
MP Faris, who is former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom’s son, was arrested last year on bribery charges. Since then, the former president, and MP Faris’ brother-in-law have also been arrested.
