A man convicted of trafficking in diamorphine has been sentenced to life imprisonment and fined MVR 100,000 by the Shaviyani Maaungoodhoo Magistrate's Court.
Police identified the man as 28 year old Mohamed Fariq of Fehivilla, Maaungoodhoo. Police said he was sentenced under Section 105 of the Drugs Act.
The case was filed in November 2020 and was completed and submitted to the Prosecutor General's Office on 6 January 2021.
In a separate case, 59 year old Abdul Wahhaab Ahmed of Seenu Meedhoo was also sentenced to life imprisonment for drug trafficking yesterday.
Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate's Court also sentenced a woman to life imprisonment last month after finding her guilty of drug trafficking. The woman was found with drugs hidden inside her bra while travelling to the airport.
