Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed revealed last night that the Waqf Fund has received over MVR 3 million so far this year. 

In a message sent in the ministry's media group, the minister said that these funds were received through Waqf Fund donation links on the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority's (MIRA) website. 

The funds will be used for initiatives defined in the fund's Trust Statement under the set policies, the minister said. Such initiatives include the construction of mosques, repair and maintenance of mosques, publishing religious writings and spreading islamic knowledge. 

The government places priority on strengthening waqf financial systems in the country and ensuring a sustainable income for waqf initiatives. As such, the DhaaruSalaam and DhaaruNaeem waqf buildings have been developed, with revenue from those places going towards Islam-related projects.
