A 59 year old was convicted of diamorphine trafficking and was sentenced to 25 year imprisonment along with a fine of MVR 100,000.

The man has been identified as Abdul Wahhab Ahmed, S. Meedhoo, Register no. 07. 

Police said that he was charged under Article 105 of the Drugs Act. 

The case was submitted on December 1, 2021. Police then concluded investigation and forwarded the case for prosecution on January 13, 2022. 

Another individual was also sentenced to life imprisonment last month for a conviction of diamorphine trafficking. 

This sentence was handed out by the HDh. Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate Court against a female resident of the same island. In this case, the drugs had been found inside a bra the suspect had been wearing when she went to the Hanimaadhoo Airport. 

She was also sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of MVR 100,000.
