The parliament's General Purpose Committee held its meeting today on MPs' health insurance closed, accusing journalists of misrepresenting MPs' comments in the last meeting. 

First on the agenda in today's meeting was meeting with Allied Insurance officials to discuss difficulties faced with the health insurance provided to MPs. 

South Feydhoo MP Ibrahim Didi (IB) submitted a motion seeking to hold this part of the meeting closed to journalists. This was seconded by Holhudhoo MP Abdul Sattar Mohamed and passed unanimously. 

Committee Chair Hulhudhoo MP Mohamed Shahid announced the agenda for the meeting. He then said that news coverage of Tuesday's meeting had distorted what MPs had actually said. 

"What we spoke about was difficulties faced in insurance, under the insurance scheme we members are provided within how the insurance company has agreed to provide service," Shahid said. 

He elaborated that MPs had raised issues such as delays in service, and other such difficulties. 

Although the committee meeting was closed during discussions with Allied Insurance officials, the latter part of the meeting was held open.
