The 15th congress of the SAARC Association of Anaesthesiologists (SAARC-AA Regional Body) has been scheduled to be held in AA. Ukulhas from the 15th to the 16th of this month.

Organized by the association, the congress is held with the support of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists. It is a congress held once every two years.

This is the first time the congress is being held in the Maldives.

Speaking on PSM's "Raajje Miadhu" program, Director General of Health Dr. Ahmed Ashraf stated that holding such international congresses in the Maldives is a significant advancement for the country, bringing benefits to the Maldives in many ways.

"This gives us the opportunity to share and present regional scientific expertise on a single platform. That is actually a very significant advancement for the field of anesthesiology. In this way, we will get the opportunity to discuss the latest research and techniques achieved in such conferences," Ashraf said.

He stated that the second benefit of holding the conference in the Maldives is gaining the opportunity to strengthen relationships and enhance cooperation among health experts in the region. Increasing the capacity to hold such congresses in the Maldives is also a benefit that will be gained, he said.

"Our becoming aware, getting accustomed to, and gaining the experience of carrying out these things. These are actually very important benefits gained by the nation," Ashraf said.

He stated that gaining the opportunity to open up and promote the Maldives to other countries, as well as obtaining major advancements for the country's economy and education sector, are also benefits of holding the congress in the Maldives.

"Therefore, holding such a conference at this level is actually important for us in very many ways and something that brings us a lot of benefits," Ashraf said.
