People's National Congress (PNC) Chairperson and Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla stated last night that PNC's elections and their rulings will not be decided according to what other people want and that it will be done within the party's regulations.
The party has denied rumors reported to the media that a specific PNC committee passed a motion where the voting process for PNC's Vice Presidents will be done with a show of hands during PNC's congress being held from 15th September to 18th September. PNC said that all of their matters, along with congress, will move forward as per their guidelines.
At the rally held at AA. Ukulhas, Abdul Raheem said the party's congress will be the most complete and successful in the political history of Maldives.
The congress will be held with more than 1,000 representatives, and it will be a small part of the team that will be created for the future of the nation, said Abdul Raheem.
While responding to criticism from the opposition about PNC's congress, Abdul Raheem said that those who keep criticizing do not know the Political Parties Act.
"A party's basic guidelines will outline how a congress should be carried out. We are about to hold our congress as per our party's guidelines. Other people do not have to see whether our party's election will be held by casting votes into a ballot box, by casting votes into a washing machine, by casting votes into a concrete mixer or by casting votes into the teeth of a Highmark (excavator)," said Abdul Raheem.
"This party will do so within its guidelines. Even if people criticize us or not, PNC is currently preparing for the biggest, broadest and most complete congress yet in Maldives."
He said that island steering committees, presidents and vice presidents for constituencies and presidents for women and youth branches have been elected.
Abdul Raheem went on to say that in order to assure every citizen sleeps in peace and safely, the belt must be tightened so that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is successful in the 2028 Presidential Election.
The President's aim is to secure a prosperous life for the citizens, and that he is currently conducting efforts to do so, said Abdul Raheem. He also said there is currently no work more important than succeeding in the 2028 Presidential Election for the sake of national security.
Abdul Raheem said that others who want to run for president are those who have failed in their term, and that the citizens can see what has happened to the country when the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) was in office for two terms.
