President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said last night that the opposition should cooperate with the government's positive efforts, stating that is what amounts to putting the country first.

While speaking at the People's National Congress (PNC) hub in AA. Ukulhas as part of his official visits yesterday, the President said that his own agenda is not the most important thing to him, and that his priority is the nation instead.

However, the President also said that that is not what he sees within Maldives' political landscape.

"When we take a look at our political landscape, we see that other parties do not act in such a way, as I stated just now. The country is not put first. There is no such action being seen," said the President.

"If there is a positive effort for the nation and for its citizens by the government, then they are good things. Opposition and political parties should offer their cooperation in such matters. That is how it should be if the country is being put first."

President Muizzu went on to say that in democratic nations, the government and opposition parties share the same views when it comes to matters that would benefit the country. He also said that even though those countries may criticize the government, they also request it be done better.

"And that is how responsible political activities operate. If opposition parties are responsible, that is how they should function. Nevertheless, everyone knows that that is not how it is in this country."

President Muizzu stated that there is no sincerity and sense of responsibility from Maldives' opposition parties, and so he requested everyone to think properly and to keep their eyes open.

The President continued, saying that there are no political obstacles in Maldives, and that there is room for everything within the law and regulations.

"There is no spirit of retaliation as before and the current government does not prioritize it at all and will never be done. That is not something we believe in," the President said.

"The spirit of retaliation has been completely eradicated, the spirit of political unrest has been eradicated. There is peace, and the government's efforts in establishing a stable and responsible political environment is a priority of the ruling party. This is something everyone can agree on if they stop to put their differences aside and think in a patriotic manner."

During the rally at Ukulhas, President Muizzu highlighted all of his pledges.

According to the President, his pledges are being fulfilled in a time of economic difficulty in Maldives and the obstacles that come with it. The pledges include the housing pledge and land reclamation projects in islands, said the President, and that he has a "common list" of all the islands.

President Muizzu went on to say that the complete success of the pledges will begin being seen by the second quarter of 2028 and that there is complete assurance.

"The list has projects that are the most important and has the highest priority for each island. Take Ukulhas for example, which has separate projects. When we take a look at the islands close by and other islands in the atoll such as Rasdhoo, they are projects that are important to every island. That is how it is across Maldives," said President Muizzu.

The President said that along with the projects that will be completed across all islands, plans have been made to prioritize the most important matters for its residents. He gave his assurance that the projects will be finished within the current term.

According to the President, details of the projects will continue being shared with the public by the relevant ministries and companies.
