Future Homes has withdrawn its Civil Court case against the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) over a dispute involving land allocated in the Maafannu Stadium area.

The company, whose managing director is footballer Ibrahim Fazeel (Oppo), had sought to prevent FAM from requiring it to vacate a building constructed on the site.

At the first hearing, the Civil Court granted the parties a week to explore an out-of-court settlement. Following those discussions, Future Homes informed the court that it wished to withdraw the case, and the court subsequently dismissed it.

It is not clear whether the parties reached an agreement.

During the hearing, Future Homes argued that complying with FAM's order to vacate the premises would cause the company irreparable financial loss and claimed the association would be unable to compensate it.

FAM responded that the agreement between the two parties clearly sets out the applicable payments and compensation arrangements.

The lawsuit stated that Future Homes had fulfilled its obligations under a 2023 agreement with FAM by constructing a building on the site.

The company sought a declaration that FAM had unlawfully failed to honor the agreement while the building was in use and asked the court to order the association to comply with its contractual obligations. It also sought compensation for losses allegedly caused by the suspension of work on the site.

According to court documents, FAM agreed to grant Future Homes the use of 2,700 square feet of land at Maafannu Stadium for 25 years, rent-free, in exchange for clearing a rubbish dump on the southern side of the FAM turf stadium and constructing a changing room.

Future Homes said it completed the agreed works at a cost of several million rufiyaa.

The company had also sought an interim order preventing FAM from enforcing its notice to vacate the premises. FAM had previously said it would take legal action after the company failed to vacate the land despite repeated requests.

FAM has alleged that the two-storey building constructed by Future Homes was built without the necessary approvals from the Housing Ministry and the Male' City Council, and said both authorities had confirmed this in writing.

Future Homes has denied the allegation.

A company official said Future Homes would not object to vacating the land provided it receives compensation for the costs it incurred and any losses resulting from the termination of the arrangement.
