The election to select members to the board of the Local Government Authority (LGA) from among councilors and presidents of Women's Development Committees has been postponed.

The election was previously scheduled to be held this coming Saturday.

In a press statement issued by LGA today, it stated that the election to select members to the authority's board from among councilors and presidents of Women's Development Committees has been postponed indefinitely.

According to LGA, the election had to be postponed because essential tasks that need to be done in connection with the election have not been completed. However, further details were not disclosed.

The board of LGA consists of nine members. This includes a minister appointed by the President, the Chief Executive Officer, three members designated by the Parliament, a member elected from among city councilors, a member elected from among presidents of atoll councils, a member elected from among island councilors, and an employee of the Ministry of Finance designated by the Ministry.
